Roundup: Male Protagonists

March 5, 2018

I was recently asked to provide some book recommendations with male protagonists, which got me thinking. A lot of books that I've read have female protagonists, as they seem to be more common, at least with the types of books that I am reading. So what are some of the best books with male protagonists?

~More Than a Game~

This is the perfect book for people who play video games, and those who don't alike. I don't play video games, pretty much ever, with the exception of when playing with family. But I enjoyed this book a ton. It's got a ton of action, I became extremely engrossed in the story, since there were tons of mysteries for me to try and solve, and I became extremely attached to some of the NPCs. It may start off a little slow, but it 100% makes up for it with the second half of the book!

 ~The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue~

So it's a little weird for me to recommend this book because although it does have a male protagonist, he was most definitely not one of my favorite characters ever. In fact, my favorite character was his sister. But it was a very good book, and I really did enjoy reading it, and I know other people who loved his attitude and actions. So it's a pretty subjective thing. But this book had tons of twists and turns, and I loved how Monty didn't magically get fixed, even though he did some ~questionable~ things. It wasn't the genre that I normally read, but it was still really good!

 ~The Seven Realms Series~

This isn't technically a book, but it is an amazing series so I am going to include it anyway because I make the rules here. This series is amazing. There are wizards, and magic, and dual narrators (and yes, technically only one is a guy, but I liked his chapters a lot more than Raisa's especially earlier on in the series. I'm going to attach the tag-along here that if you like Chima's Seven Realms series, you will most likely also love her The Heir Chronicles and The Shattered Realms series as well. Some of these do include alternating chapters with female perspectives, but with the exception of maybe one or two books the main protagonist is normally a male.

My reviews for this series are up on my old site, eventually they will be brought over here as well, but I haven't had the time to do that yet! Theoretically that will be happening next week.

Does anybody have some good series (or standalone) recommendations with a male protagonist? Let me know in the comments below!
